About Me

The Write Connection Creator and Founder
If my English professors could only see me now. They would be astonished. Because today I’m a successful author.
I’ve always been a creative person. I love sewing, crafting, working with clay, gardening and especially dance. All those hobbies came easy for me, and I quickly became skilled at each of them. However, I was not a natural writer. But after many years of hard work, I am thrilled to say I’ve mastered the art of writing. What's more, my creativity and early writing challenges led me to develop a program to help students who faced the same writing challenges as I had.
In 1991, I became an elementary school teacher in an inner-city school in Los Angeles. Within months, I had a defining moment while passing out my students’ failed essays. I was, in fact, looking at 32 mirror images of myself; my students didn’t have a clue about how to write a proficient essay. This was especially true for students who came from poorer families, and those for whom English was their second language.
In addition, I learned that one of the challenges in elementary education, besides the lack of quality writing curriculum, is that many teachers are uncomfortable with their own writing skills. Or they may have innate writing ability but struggle to convey those skills to students. Writing came easily to them, and they might not understand why their students' struggle.
As a former teacher and once struggling writer, I understood both students' and teachers’ sides. And I was determined to help them. I spent months scouring teacher supply stores, but I couldn’t find anything I could use. So, I buckled down, went to work, and developed The Write Connection. Seven years later, all my students, including those from poorer families and English learners, became successful writers when they used the curriculum I developed. It literally arose from the needs of my students.
I am very proud to have developed The Write Connection, a program that helps educators teach their students to become competent writers and public speakers, two vital skills needed to excel in today’s world.
